Calley is an artist from Cape Town, ZA. Born in Virginia, Free State, on the 26th of November 1991, he moved to the Mother City with his mother and two brothers in 2000, where he completed his early education at Good Hope Seminary Junior School. Growing up in the crime-ridden streets of Gugulethu, he likened himself with friends who were avid listeners of Hip Hop music, just as he was. The sounds of early Jay Z, Notorious BIG, 2 Pac, Nas, Mobb Deep and many other East Coast rappers were introduced to him by his brothers, and these musicians were to become a major influence in his life. At the age of 16 (then performing under the alias Red Phenom), he formed part of a trio called the Wikid Crooks, where he and his group – V-Mash and Black Wizard – were present in line-ups of the Hip Hop sessions that were once held at the Gugulethu Sports Complex on Sundays. Without an official release, he continued to write music in his spare time, focussing most of his attention on completing his studies, and inevitably, the group dissolved and it seemed as if that was the end of Calley’s career as a musician. However, after taking some time away from the music scene, he has returned in 2014 with the promise of a debut mixtape.
The title of his first release is called F.U.N.K. It is a self-explanatory acronym which stands for ‘Find Ur Niche Kid’. The mixtape is all about how Calley has finally accepted music as his identity – his niche

of wanting to learn more about the art of music has had him meet many individuals who like him have a passion for music. From being inspired by a number of local acts he has managed to learn the art of music making on some of the leading music production software programs such as Fruity Loops, Reason and Cubase. Through seeing how others came up with sounds (or music) he too learned to make music that at first only made sense to him, but as time elapsed he has managed to diversify his music and has managed to learn different genres of music such as, Hip Hop, kwaito, Midtempo (House), and Electronica. As he continues to find more ways to make his music fruitful, Bluez finds himself writing lyrics to a few of his own music and collaborating with artist in and around Cape Town. Music for Bluez is a Never ending Journey and he continues to make music that more and more people are loving and appreciating.

With interests ranging from music to fashion it is evident that this young man is on the path to great things! So, it was a no brainer having I'm on the stable. With a rap style as diverse as his interest, defining him is close to impossible. His featured on a few tracks on the Cape Town's local circuit and creative influences on a few projects!
